With Extra Time

Some days you rush around trying to follow the clouds and the sunset and the magic and you are repaid in full. Sometimes you aren't. Luckily for me this day afforded me the former experience. My Dad and I had climbed a set of hills on in the distance to catch the sunset, see previous blog post. That hike proved to offer some lovely light, but not what I was expecting from that day. As soon as he and I made it back home that's when the sky started to burn in the most beautiful ways. Sometimes you've just got to wait.

The moon had crept out and was shining so brightly against the tangerines, peaches, and pinks of the sleepy sun. This is something that I always forget about higher altitude places: the sunsets last so much longer. The sun may have fully disappeared from your view, but it is still making its way behind the mountains. When it does that, oh my, does it show off. If the clouds are right, you will be graced with half an hour of kaleidoscopic joy. I just found myself gasping over and over again as the subtlety in the light changed the scenery constantly. Too bad cameras cannot catch the full magic, but I'll keep trying.

Do you all out there have a favorite place to watch the sunset?

With love,
