Escape in the Plains
Thanksgiving can be rough. My parents before I was born moved from Kansas where they were raised to South Dakota. If you aren't aware South Dakota has pretty treacherous winters and so Christmas traveling was never guaranteed. However, we made a tradition to always visit Kansas for Thanksgiving. This is a tradition we still hold. But as the years have droned on and parts of the family have died, moved away, or moved on the festivities start becoming less interesting and more painstaking. My family doesn't stay long because the house we stay in is quite oppressive and no one truly enjoys themselves. So we fulfill our duty and then move on. This year, I looked for reasons to get out of the house. To start to narrate this trip in a different way, my way. So I convinced my parents, but not my sister, to come with me on a sunrise hike. I'm so glad we did. The skies in Kansas are beautiful.
